Mijn naam is Sarah Surgey en ik woon in het zuidwesten van Engeland met mijn echtgenoot Mark en onze vier dochters.
Ik ben een kleuterjuf die werkte in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Frankrijk, vrijwilligerswerk deed voor een liefdadigheidsinstelling die zich inzet voor de geestelijke gezondheid van kinderen en nu taal en taalwetenschappen studeert met speciale interesse voor sociolinguïstiek.
Nadat ik reeds voor meerdere tijdschriften schreef, voornamelijk over Noordse cultuur, heb ik nu een nieuwe liefde gevonden: het schrijven van kinderboeken.
I’m Sarah, Yorkshire born, London bred and Bath-based (having also detoured to France for a year).
I live in the South West of England with my husband Mark and four daughters, which evidently means I fit my writing in around a very hectic household! As a pre-school teacher, I can often be found in the book corner reading to the children and sharing my passion for children’s literature.
After writing for various magazines over the years, mainly in relation to Nordic culture, I couldn’t deny the feeling any longer, to sit down and put all the children’s stories I constantly had whizzing around inside my head from pen to paper… I actually still prefer that method to the digital age, another story!
With a strong passion to collaborate with other female talents, I have managed to evolve my first children’s book ‘The Heavy Bag‘ into different languages, making it available in other countries from independent bookstores. This is another issue that I am passionate about, independent bookstores! The smell of a bookstore and the feel of the pages whilst shopping small and supporting local businesses.
